Midsommar review- 2019’s mostPsychological horror movie
With the word horror, we’re always wired about “the blood horrifying look” on victims being slaughtered. the creaking door. Spiced up with some spooky music background playing. Well, I assure you this isn’t the same. This movie will definitely change your definition of the word.
Whispers: The movie’s premiere was out last night, 31 Jul, in the theater Palace of Tunis.
It’s a dark horror where you’re terrified from the first scene til the last minute of it. And we’ve got Ari Aster, the screenwriter, to thank for that. “Thank” can do very little in this case. Believe me!
1. Bad Relationship dish
At first, The movie plate served a bad relationship Dani (Florence Pugh) was having with Christan (Jack Reynor), an anthropology student. Their relationship dated for more than four years and yet it was on the edge of the cliff. What made them get even further was her sudden loss of her parents.
On a party night, a group of his friends admitted they were planning their trip to Sweden. A trip was actually an invitation from their Sweden friend Pelle, to their yearly festivities. As a reconciliation gesture for not telling her, Christian felt obliged to invite Dani.
2. A community setting out of the ordinary
The story takes place in the middle of no where “Hårga”, the village. As a First stop they had to take some hallucinogenic herbs making them lose sense of reality. From an outsider point of view this could be the root of all evil.
The first glance of the trailer ( watch it down below) make it sound like a classic movie. However, it says nothing about the movie. For two and half hours, you will feel trapped, watching mentally disturbing scenes that you can probably relate or you’ve seen practiced in other cults.
3. A Plot so well knitted
Ari Aster managed in a genius way to prepare our night bed. As he layed down facts, smalls signals for us to rejoice from. Dani was already not in a stable state as she entered the place. This probably made her the best candidate to be part of them. She had lost her family. Therefore, she was in desperate need to belong to someone or to somewhere.
The ceremony started as promised the following day with the smell of conformism everywhere. A nightmarish place, where everyone smiles the same way, starts eating at the same time and sleeps at the same place.
The most powerful thing is how he gradually introduced the characters. It made us go through every painful moment and literally every shocking second with them. Hatts off for that!
In an interview held by The guardian, Aster admitted that he likes films that disturb. At four, he had his first cinematic experience, seeing Dick Tracy. When the tommy guns started blazing, he fled. “My mom had to chase me down 10 New York city blocks [while I was] just screaming my head off.”
If you’re looking to have an intense experience, this is one of your best options.
(Whispers 2: It would be preferrable to not watch it alone )
Being an industrial engineer did not stop her from keeping her passion towards writing alive.
